City-Dwellers Start Renovations

During the past 140 years, the Concord home has seen several renovations. The Pasquinas have hired the Silva Brothers to help them improve views of the beautiful three-acre property and make better use of the space inside.

Beautifying the Outdoors

This Old House Landscape Contractor Jenn Nawada starts on enhancing the landscape outside by planting new trees and shrubs.

Old Garage Comes Down

Kevin O’Conner gets a turn using the excavator to tear down the old garage.

Framing Goes Up

The new garage is framed behind the main house. On the back of the main house, a new shed dormer adds ceiling height to the existing second floor.

Heat Source

This Old House plumber Richard Trethewey and General Contractor Tom Silva review the baseboard heating inside the home. Hot water will be used to heat the house, and in some rooms, the old baseboards will be re-used.

Look Out Below

Tommy and Charlie demo a section of the ceiling where they will be installing a new beam next to the old staircase. This needs to be done in order to take down a section of one of the walls alongside the stairs.

Bracing the Foundation
