TIP 1: Save time by using the right primer for the job: a sealer primer to fill in porous bare wood and cover knots and stains; a tinted primer to reduce the number of dark-colored finish coats; and an all-in-one primer paint to speed up general painting. TIP 2: Before applying latex paint over a surface coated with oil-based paint—or vice versa—always prime the surface to ensure good adhesion. Today’s primers are compatible with both types of paint.
